TURNBULL GOVERNMENT FALLS ON 'THE MOST CREDIBLE' ENVIRONMENTAL INDEX

January 27, 2016

The release of the Yale Environmental Performance Index shows that the Turnbull Government is taking Australia backwards on climate change at a shocking pace.

The Yale report states that over the last decade “nearly every country has improved its EPI score”.  Every country, that is, except Australia.

Under the Turnbull Liberal Government we have dropped ten places in the overall rankings from 3rd to 13th

Australia has turned up very close to the bottom of the pack on carbon trends under the Turnbull Government, coming in at 150th.

Environment Minister Greg Hunt has in the past used the Yale Index to justify the Turnbull Government’s environmental performance.

In November last year, the Minister praised the index as "the most credible, scientifically-based, hard data-based analysis in the world,”

That very same index now shows Australia falling hopelessly behind under the Turnbull Government.

Malcolm Turnbull has adopted the environmentally reckless policies of Tony Abbott. He is continuing Direct Action, which has seen emissions continue to rise.

He is continuing Tony Abbott’s attacks on renewable energy by pushing for the abolition of the Australian Renewable Energy Agency and the Clean Energy Finance Corporation.

Only Labor has the policies needed to protect Australia’s environment.
