Under Scott Morrison, Australia is now ranked 61st out of 61 countries on climate policy. Australia’s sits squarely at the bottom of the table with a score of 0.0.
The 2020 Climate Change Performance Index is scathing about the Morrison Government’s lack of climate action giving Australia the LOWEST POSSIBLE rating for climate policy.
In a list of 61 countries, Australia is ranked last whereas China and Morocco are in the top 10 and even countries like Ukraine and Saudi Arabia are ranked in a higher category.
The Index states, “Australia receives the lowest rating in this year’s Climate Policy rating as experts observe that the newly elected government has continued to worsen performance at both national and international levels.
“Experts note that the new government is an increasingly regressive force in negotiations and has been criticised for its lack of ambition by several Pacific Island nations in the context of this year’s Pacific Island Forum.
“The dismissal of recent IPCC reports, the government not attending the UN Climate Action Summit in September, and the withdrawal from funding the Green Climate Fund (GCF) underpin the overall very low performance in the Climate Policy category.”
This Government is pathetic when it comes to climate action and Australia’s lack of climate policy has become an international embarrassment.
Meanwhile to avoid real climate action all this Government wants to do is use dodgy accounting tricks to cook the books and fake meeting their inadequate Paris Agreement targets.
As Australia burns and Sydney is smoked out the Prime Minister and Emissions Reduction Minister have serious questions to answer.
