MINISTERIAL STANDARDS ARE DOUBLE STANDARDS UNDER SCOTT MORRISON

January 24, 2020

Given Scott Morrison referred embattled Bridget Mackenzie to the secretary of his department to see if she breached the Ministerial Code of Conduct, he now must do the same to Angus Taylor.

Angus Taylor has continually misled Parliament over the City of Sydney doctored documents saga.

He assured Parliament that this fabricated report was downloaded from the City of Sydney Council website. The NSW Police confirmed “The document had to have been doctored from Canberra” and referred the matter to the AFP.

Angus Taylor also failed to declare his personal financial interests in Jam Land Pty Ltd to the Parliament, while his own department is investigating the company he part owns for poising critically endangered grasslands.

Mr Taylor admitted he was looking after his private interests on the matter, last July, after it was revealed he met with departmental officials about the grasslands, including representatives of the compliance team conducting the investigation.

Mr Taylor also stood to benefit from changes to the listing status of the poisoned grasslands proposed by then Environment Minister Josh Frydenberg’s office.

Mr Taylor has also been embroiled in a scandal involving the Commonwealth’s $80 million purchase of water from a Cayman Islands based entity he was associated with, whilst Barnaby Joyce was the Water Minister.

There seems to be one rule for National MPs that break Ministerial Standards and another for Liberal MPs.

Angus Taylor should have already been stood down by Scott Morrison.

If Scott Morrison’s ministerial standards mean anything at all, he must do what he should have done months ago and refer Angus Taylor to his department to investigate his minister’s repeated breaches.
