The Coalition will never act on climate change as the hard right of their party continues to dictate climate policy.
Scott Morrison only had to mention the possibility of a slight change to his inadequate climate policy for the likes of Barnaby Joyce, Keith Pitt and Craig Kelly to stretch their legs and put an end to any speculation.
Scott Morrison is the leader in name only – he has never taken the urgent need for action on climate change seriously and will continue to take dictation from the hard right instead of climate scientists.
The Morrison Government’s non-existent action on climate change speaks for itself.
Their climate policy was ranked dead last – worse than Trump’s America, worse than Tony Abbott’s ever was, below Saudi Arabia and a range of other nations that are seen as laggards on climate policy.
Whatever this Government promises on climate change they never deliver.
They won’t meet the Kyoto commitment and they won’t meet their inadequate 2030 climate target.
The latest official Government emissions data confirms Australia will not meet our Kyoto commitment to cut emissions by 5 per cent next year. In fact, our emissions reduction will amount to little more than a rounding error of 0.3 per cent, putting the lie to the Prime Minister’s claim that we are meeting and beating our international commitments.
The Government’s own data suggests our emissions will come down by only less than 5 per cent over the next 10 years. At that rate, it will take Australia 230 years to reach net zero emissions, rather than the 30 years scientists tell us is necessary.
