CARBON EMISSIONS CONTINUE RISING UNDER LIBERALS

June 06, 2019

Angus Taylor has shown his true colours in his first outing as Minister for Emissions Reduction.

In the quarter to December 2018 Australia’s carbon emissions rose 0.8 per cent. On an annual basis Australia’s emissions rose 0.7 per cent.

As expected under the Liberals carbon emissions continue to rise, exposing the Government’s fantasy that Australia is “on track” to meet even the Liberals weak emission reduction targets.

The Liberals record on climate is:

  • Carbon emissions have been continuously rising since 2014.
  • Government projections show the Liberals will miss the 2020 Kyoto commitment of a 5 per cent cut on 2000 levels. Instead, the cut will only be 1 per cent.
  • Government projections also show emissions will keep rising all the way to 2030 – missing their inadequate 2030 target by a huge margin.

Not only did Angus Taylor not release the emissions data by the deadline set by the Senate last Friday, today’s release shows once again that the Liberals will try every trick in the book to avoid scrutiny of their record on tackling climate change.

No wonder Angus Taylor won’t even list his title Minister for Emissions Reduction on his press releases, he is failing his own job title KPI.
