Resources Minister Keith Pitt can’t help himself. Last night on Seven News, Mr Pitt said he wants the Government to explore lifting the ban on nuclear energy.
This, even though on the 10th of February Mr Pitt said in Question Time, “The opposition knows the government's position. There is a moratorium on nuclear energy in this country.”
The Government can’t have it both ways.
Is nuclear power what is being considered by the Government’s so-called “clean energy target”? Nuclear energy is three times more expensive than firmed renewables and would lead to higher power prices.
Scott Morrison must now come clean about his Government’s nuclear power plan and let Australians know which regions are in his nuclear firing line.
Will there be dumps or reactors in Jervis Bay, Townsville, Gladstone, Perth, Western Port in Victoria or on the New South Wales North Coast? These are just some of the more than 100 communities previously identified as possible locations for nuclear reactors and nuclear dumps.
This Government has proved itself incapable of formulating a coherent energy policy which will lower emissions, bring down power prices and provide certainty in the energy sector for workers and businesses alike.
