In an extraordinary exchange today with Patricia Karvelas, Angus Taylor has once again confirmed that when it comes to addressing climate change, he prefers to play politics than listen to the scientists.
KARVELAS: But you haven't committed - unless I missed it, but I don't think I have - net zero emissions by 2050. That's what the scientists are saying to you. When we watch the press conferences on COVID-19, and then the Prime Minister responds, he always says, "We're taking the advice of the scientists." But on this, you're not?
TAYLOR: Sure. .
KARVELAS: Unless you're going to tell me now that you will commit to net zero emission by 2050...?
TAYLOR: Well, it's a global commitment that counts. You see, this is the point.
Australia has a Minister for Emission Reduction who is comfortable admitting that science isn’t driving his climate change policies
When it comes to COVID-19 Scott Morrison and his Government are willing to follow the advice of scientists.
When it comes to climate action Scott Morrison takes dictation from Angus Taylor and the anti-renewable climate-deniers of his party room who don’t believe in the science of climate change.
If Scott Morrison and his Government were serious about climate change they would listen to the science and adopt the same Paris consistent target that every state and territory, as well as Federal Labor has: net zero emissions by 2050.
Instead they have a three-word slogan - “technology not taxes” - which is a joke coming from a Government whose only climate response has been to funnel billions of taxpayers dollars to big polluters.
